The American Library Association Awards are announced this upcoming Monday. I always love to see which books win - it enviably adds some books to my reading list. I especially have a fondness for picture books so I love to follow the Caldecott winners. Last year my favorite book won -
A Sick Day for Amos McGee - I love the story and illustrations. Here are a couple of picture books I have enjoyed this year:
I loved Wonderstruck - both the story and illustrations. I would have to guess that this is a frontrunner. My other two are probably not frontrunners but were two that I loved and thought were beautifully illustrated:
I am not very well read on candidates for Newbery winners but one I did enjoy this year was the third instillation of The Penderwicks.

Wonderstruck is wonderful, isn't it? Since Selznick already won a Caldecott for Hugo Cabret, do you think he could get it again? I think his art is stronger than his writing, but the story construction of both books is amazing, so maybe it could be considered for a Newbery, too.
I also love the third Penderwicks book. My kids & I are reading Half Magic right now, and I think this is the type of book Jeanne Birdsall must have loved as a child.
I just jotted down the two picture book titles to request from the library. Found your blog through the Comment Challenge, and I've bookmarked it!
I really liked Wonderstruck. I was just trying to get my brother to read it since he always enjoyed going to the American Museum of Natural History when he lived in NYC
I've also seen talk that Wonderstruck could be considered for the Newbery. Guess we'll see very soon. And I've seen The Penderwicks on the lists, too. It's an exciting time as you said!
I fully intend to sneak peeks at the live Twitter feed while I'm at work on Monday. Can't wait! I vote The Scorpio Races for the Printz. Or maybe Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Too bad I'm not a member of the ALA.
When will the CYBIL winners be announced? Did you enjoy your judging experience?
I, too, absolutely loved A Sick Day for Amos McGee! I haven't seen King Jack or Mouse & Lion and will have to look for them.
Hi Camille, I'm a new follower over from the comment challenge. Nice to meet you.
I like the look of Wonder Struck. The cover is captivating.
This is one of the really nice things about awards - they introduce us to books we hadn't heard of before. I haven't heard of Wonderstruck, but if we can judge a book by its cover, this one looks enticing.
